Empty Product Codes

Some ERP systems have extra product codes to indicate an empty status. So-called "empty product codes" are an indication of whether the asset is considered full or not. Billing is usually done based on the empty code, since once it is delivered to the customer, it is switched to the empty code.

TrackAbout has the capability of tracking assets with full and empty product codes, and "flipping" a product code on the asset based on whether the asset is full or empty.

Once this feature has been enabled, setting your Product Codes to be Empty is described here.

Empty to Full Mapping

Empty product codes can relate to one or many full product codes, but a full product code can only have one empty product code. When an asset is filled, it will have a full product code set on it. This can either be selected manually or generated using a formula based on asset family and asset properties. We have no handling for automatically "flipping" from an empty code to a full code because we can't know what the full code will be since an empty code can have many full codes.

Empty Products on Not Scanned Deliveries

When adding not-scanned assets during a delivery, users can only select an asset's full product code. During returns, TrackAbout switches it to the empty product code. This is necessary to maintain not-scanned balances: A single empty code can map to multiple full codes, so we rely on users to specify the full code.

By contrast, clients need to transfer empty cylinders between branches, so empty product codes are available for branch transfers created using the delivery action.
